Personalized plant-based trolleys - Intensive use

Customer:

Our customer is a reputable retail group with over 30,000 employees and a large portfolio of food- and non-food formulas in Belgium, France and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Challenge:

For the distribution of the food- and non-food products from a central distribution centre, various personalized plant-based trolleys have been developed which can be loaded up to max. 1,500 kg. Because of intensive use in widely differing conditions, the design has to meet some high quality standards.

Solution:

After an extensive testing programme in the field, Vulkoprin opted, together with the customer, for Easyroll wheels. These high-performance, rubber wheels with a steel-plate core offer the perfect combination of a high load capacity with a low rolling resistance. In order to optimize the durability of the wheels, the wheels were mounted inside customer-specific, compact swivel castors with a special bearing in the steering head. Ideal in order to absorb all the shock load and to ensure that the frequent swivelling and turning do not affect the wear life of the castors.

Result:

Thanks to the Easyroll wheels, our customer concludes that the wear life of the wheels is 2 to 3 x longer than what the previous solution could offer and, as a result, maintenance service costs have been greatly reduced. In addition, the operators can, without difficulty – thanks to low starting- and rolling resistance – manually manipulate the plant-based trucks, and this on all surfaces.

USP:

Ergonomics, a longer wear life and a minimal maintenance cost have convinced the customer to forge a long-term cooperation.
